Netflix’s ‘She’s Gotta Have It‘ Series Is Coming Back For A Season Two

Spike Lee’s reboot of the 1986 movie, She’s Gotta Have It, debuted its first season on Netflix on November 23rd, 2017. For those who don’t have any context about the show,  the movie-turned-series spotlights a young woman, Nola Darling (portrayed by DeWanda Wise), and her quest to find balance in the universe, all while juggling a complicated love life.

Set in Brooklyn, New York, the title ingeniously sets the theme of the of the show, suggesting that Darling, like many women today, is insatiable with ideas of success and before a woman can embrace the idea of contentment, she’s gotta have that “it” factor.

Though Darling does everything in her power to separate herself from the margins of traditional womanhood, she still underlines the everyday struggle that women face, no matter their lifestyle choices; be it financial, love, or the lack-thereof, and social responsibilities.

The show, which includes a majority female writing team, comes at a perfect time, when what it means to be feminine, and what is considered “ladylike”, is in question.

She’s Gotta Have It–which was directed and edited by Spike Lee in both renditions, is set to release its eight-episode sophomore season on Netflix, according to an Instagram Video on the AUC’s Alumni profile page.
