Donald Glover Signs With New Label To Take On His Next Phase As Childish Gambino

Last year at the Governor’s Ball Festival, most of us were in shock and unhappy when the Atlanta television show star and rapper Childish Gambino, also known as Donald Glover, announced that his next album would be his last album. He opens up to say that “there is only so far you can go before you just are the radio.” Well, despite the announcement made, it seems as though making the last album may now be on the back burner, as Gambino leaves behind his former record label, GlassNote Records, and signs a new record deal with RCA in partnership with creative agency Wolf + Rothstein.

The CEO of RCA, Peter Edge, expresses his happiness regarding this newest addition to the label by saying, “Donald is undoubtedly one of the most talented, multi-faceted, young entertainers of this era,” he continues, “We are excited to join forces with him and Wolf + Rothstein to usher in the next phase of Childish Gambino’s musical career.”

Gambino admits that signing to RCA was a necessary change of pace. He also stated in an interview with The Huffington Post last summer, “I feel like there’s gotta be a reason to do things, and I always had a reason to be punk,” he says, “Being punk just always felt really good to me, and we always looked at Atlanta as a punk show. I feel like the direction I would go with Childish Gambino wouldn’t be punk anymore. As much as ‘Redbone’ is a punk song because it’s a gospel song that’s on the radio.”

There is no exact word on what Gambino’s next project with his new label will be or when we can expect to hear something new from him, but at least the fans have something great to look forward to.
