There’s a Series About Sneaker Culture on the Way, and It’s Produced By Lena Waithe
Lena Waithe continues carrying the torch for Black culture in Hollywood. The Emmy-winner is producing an all-new unscripted series, and it’s specifically geared toward all of the sneakerheads out there who are invested in sneaker culture.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the creator of Showtime’s The Chi and Master of None writer-actress is readying the content for Jeffrey Katzenberg and Meg Whitman’s short-form video venture, Quibi, formerly known as NewTV.
Titled You Ain’t Got These, the project was described as “Lena Waithe’s exploration of today’s fashion-forward sneaker culture” and will “highlight the subtext of race, politics, class, gender, creativity, commerce, addiction, and self-expression that goes into every pair.”
Hailing from Broadwalk Pictures (Chef’s Table, Fearlessness), You Ain’t Got These is the latest pick-up for Katzenberg and Whitman’s platform, Quibi, and holds Broadwalk’s Andrew Fried, Jordan Wynn, and Dane Lillegard as executive producers, alongside Jonathan Hausfater and Andrew Coles. Lena Waithe, of course, will be serving on the ep team.
“We are thrilled to be collaborating with Lena. She is a singular creative voice of her generation, and her passion for this subject is infectious,” Fried said. “Jeffrey Katzenberg has always been at the forefront of whatever is next in the entertainment industry. Quibi presents the opportunity to tell stories and reach audiences in a unique way and we are excited to be among the first unscripted series on this new platform.”
A self-proclaimed sneaker lover herself, collecting over 100 pairs in her home closet, Waithe’s shoe obsession is about to create the next phenomenon, and we surely can’t wait to see it.
Are you excited for it?
