Loretta Devine and Tia Mowry-Hardrict Grabbed for New Netflix Comedy Series
Netflix Readies Sitcom, ‘Family Reunion‘, Starring Loretta Devine and Tia Mowry-Hardrict
Bring out the BBQ and the picnic tables; it’s about to be a celebration! Longtime actresses Loretta Devine and Tia Mowry-Hardrict are starring in a new comedy series for Netflix, simply titled Family Reunion.
Created and produced by Meg DeLoatch (Fuller House, Eve), the multi-generational project centers Cocoa McKellan (Mowry-Hardrict), a free-spirited, life-of-the-party, conscious mother from Seattle, her former football-playing husband, Moz (Raven’s Home actor Anthony Alabi), and their four children. When Cocoa and Moz pack up their clan and head from the big city to the boonies for the McKellan Family Reunion, they soon come in contact with the long-lost family members they didn’t even realize they were missing.
“Meg DeLoatch has created a warm, funny and memorable extended family that we believe will resonate with audiences around the world,” said Melissa Cobb, VP of Kids and Family at the popular streaming network. “The has assembled an incredibly talented all-black writers room to authentically portray these characters and their journey.”
Loretta Devine will take on the role of M’Dear, the loving but stern matriarch of the bunch, while Talia Jackson, Isaiah Russell-Bailey, Cameron J. Wright, and Jordyn Raya James are set to portray Mowry and Alabi’s children: Jade, Shaka, Mazzi, and Ami.
The African-American-led sitcom, primarily penned in a room full of Black writers, recently kicked off production in Los Angeles. Netflix has reportedly ordered twenty episodes for the series.
“I’m so excited to return to television, especially working with Netflix, and I can’t wait for everyone to see Family Reunion,” Mowry expressed. “I know my fans are going to love it!”
DeLoatch described the forthcoming endeavor as “the most supportive and creatively fulfilling experience” of her career. Devine, too, shares the same excitement.
“I am so blessed to be part of this new and exciting moment in time that will touch and bring laughter, smiles, and joy to everyone who sees it,” the legendary leading lady boasted to Deadline.
