In 2017, the U.S. ranked number two for the most travel abroad. For Americans, it’s more popular than ever to travel globally and go on new adventures.

Unfortunately, traveling to new places can be overwhelming. That’s why guided travel and travel experiences are a popular choice. You can tour a major city with the help of an experienced guide.

But, just like everything else on vacation, the cost of a guided tour on vacation can sneak up on you.

Luckily, with a few simple tips you can have a great experience that’s worth every penny. Read on to learn how to get the most out of your tour.

Choose a Tour that Matches Your Traveling Style

Before you even book a tour, think about what type of traveler you are. Would you rather walk on busy city streets or would you prefer a nature hike? Do you want to travel with people your own age?

For example, if you like exploring cities, Babylon Tours offers tours of museums and major cities around the world. If you prefer more rural areas, you might be happier with a nature-focused guided tour company.

Think about what you want out of your trip and find a tour that matches. You’ll get the most value when you truly enjoy your experience.

Interact with Your Guide or Tour Director

Your guide is an expert on the local area, but that doesn’t mean you have to act like it’s a business presentation. Feel free to be conversational, ask questions, and make observations.

After all, travel is all about engaging with different cultures, places, and people, so getting to know your tour guide is a great opportunity. They typically live in the place you’re touring, so it’s also an easy way to get recommendations for dinner or other activities.

If you just passively listen to your tour guide, you might miss your chance to hear an interesting anecdote. Think of your tour guide as both a helpful resource and a new acquaintance.

Engaging with your guide is even more important when you’re on a private tour. The itinerary is more flexible, so if there’s something you want to see, politely speak up. It might lead to an amazing experience for everyone on the trip.

Arrive On Time

It might seem obvious, but you can’t get the most out of your tour if you show up late. Being on time shows that you respect your guide and your fellow tour participants. Besides, no one likes waiting on a straggler.

If you show up too late, you could miss the bus or the entrance ticket into a museum. You might have to spend extra money or find your own way to the next stop.

It could even disrupt the whole day’s schedule, especially if you’re on an extended tour. It also won’t do you any favors if you’re trying to make friends with fellow tour-goers.

Add a Guided Tour to Your Vacation Itinerary

A guided tour is a great way to learn more about a culture and have a fun travel experience. If you book the right tour, get to know your guide, and show up on time, you can make the most of any tour.
