Starting a college changes the life of a student drastically. Studying there is different from that at high school as it demands more self-control and responsibility. If a student lives on campus, he/she usually has a lot of household chores to do. In addition, there are more temptations in social life like partying.  Besides, many students need to work part-time to support themselves. To be successful both in learning and in their independent life students need to have good time-management skills. Without them, it’s possible to fail in your studies and suffer from higher levels of stress. But as students are already adults they can improve their time-management skills and so be successful both in college in future professional life. Students try to improve their time-management skills to succeed in college and as a result, they gain the skills of successful people. So, we can say that college life might have a very positive effect on students’ time-management skills.

Some Tips on Improving Time-Management Skills

We often think about time differently. Sometimes, it seems slow, sometimes it moves too quickly. But it’s not endless. Sooner or later we regret wasting time, so, time-management skills are very important for being successful and simply happy in life. But how can we improve our time-management skills? Experts from pro-papers stress that it’s a manageable task.  The following tips can help you to be successful in time management.

  • Determine time wasters. Maybe, you tend to be distracted by social media or some links at the website you visit to study. To find out where you lose a lot of time you need to write down your typical day timing.  This way you will see when you don’t spend your time efficiently. If you tend to procrastinate it’s important to find out why you do this. Some people put off the work because they expect failure, feel tired, or simply don’t understand clearly how to do the job.
  • Take some actions to fight your time wasters. Switch off your telephone while you are studying. Plan and do big projects in small steps. Don’t try to do your work perfectly, just do it; you can always make improvements later. Remember that you can’t stay concentrated for a long time, so you need to take small breaks during your work.
  • Set your goals and reward your achievements. Those goals can be long-term, like passing your exams well, or short-term (like writing an introduction of your essay).  And if you achieve those goals reward yourself with your favorite activity for example.
  • Identify your priorities and make a to-do list. Don’t forget to set the deadlines and/or timing. Most people find it difficult to identify precisely the time necessary to do the task, even if you have done similar tasks before. So, it’s necessary to plan some extra time for doing the task to cover emergencies.
  • Try to do some learning tasks while you are doing your everyday routine. You can think over a plan of your essay on a bus or listen to a book while jogging or doing household chores.
  • Learn to say “no”. It’s important to be able to reject your friends’ offers to go partying for example, if you have planned some other things to do.
  • Have a nice rest. It’s impossible to concentrate if you are tired. So, you won’t be effective and will spend much more time doing the task. Don’t forget that healthy food and physical activity are also essential for being active and efficient.
  • Create a routine. If you are more effective in the early morning, plan to do your most important tasks this time. But avoid nightlong studying as your concentration the following day will be bad.
  • Avoid being obsessed with time management. Effective usage of your time is more important than all to-do lists. And don’t blame yourself too hard if you fail to follow your plan. This way you only add stress and sponsor your failure.

Studying at a college can stimulate students to develop their time-managing skills (https://www.newsweek.com/career/7-time-management-tricks-keep-expert-multi-taskers-sane). These skills are very important for every person who wants to be successful in professional and private life. Many famous people and celebrities have tricks they use to manage their time. You can always find recommendations that suit you the best or develop your time-managing skills.
