After originally posting and promoting a flyer that said that the upcoming Verzuz would be available on Instagram and on YouTube like it has in the past, the flyer has been changed to let fans know that they now have to pay and Verzuz is not free anymore. To be fair, the announcement was originally made as an advertisement at the end of the last Verzuz between Three-6-Mafia and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. However, the details weren’t very clear, AND making the announcement at the end of the event when people are logging off and moving on with their night is not the best way to announce such a huge change.
Verzuz has been free for 2 years, available on Instagram live since the beginning. For a short time the battles were available on AppleTV. The brand was sold to Thriller last year and they put the battles on their website and on YouTube, providing viewers with more ways to see it. Most importantly, through all those changes, Verzuz remained free. So new that Verzuz will no longer be free hit fans hard! Particularly when fans have supported the brand since the beginning of the events.
Fans reacted to the news with spirited disgust. Particularly because most of them are finding out on the eve of the Verzuz battle. Many already had plans for their outfits and arrangements for viewing for the Anthony Hamilton vs Musiq Soulchild Verzuz.
The Valentine’s Day Special Verzuz will be featured EXCLUSIVELY on VERZUZTV.COM.
The VerzPass is $2.99 for a month and $29.99 for the year. Technically, if you sign up now you get a 14 day trial so the Anthony Hamilton/Musiq Verzuz would be free, during this trial period.
Update:
Seems there was a change of heart. Swizz Beatz took to Instagram early this morning to say that the Verzuz would in fact be back on IG Live. “Don’t ask me who did it. I was out the country… It’s fixed,” he backpedaled.

Here are the reactions before they reverted back to IG Live…
