TV One Announces That Production Has Begun On A Marvin Sapp Biopic, ‘Never Would Have Made It’
TV has announced that they have begun production on a Marvin Sapp biopic. The film will tell the story of the legendary Gospel singer, whose story began as a member of Commissioned before becoming an award winning, chart topping solo star. The film is scheduled for an August 21st release on TV One. The biopic is titled, Never Would Have Made it, which makes plenty of sense.
The Marvin Sapp biopic stars Chaz Lamar Shepherd (pictured above) as Bishop Marvin Sapp. The veteran actor has played in “Marvel’s Luke Cage,” “The Game,” “Moesha,” “The Parkers,” “The Steve Harvey Show” and several other projects.
Chaz Lamar Shepherd is also a singer, having released several albums of his own. So he is uniquely capable of being able to play Bishop Sapp in the Marvin Sapp biopic.
Actress, Ambre Anderson (above) will star alongside Shepherd as MaLinda Prince Sapp. Anderson has previously appeared in “Power Book II” and “Manifest Evil” among other projects.
“It is an honor to tell Marvin Sapp’s life story,” said TV One’s Executive Producer Jason Ryan. “His vast contributions to gospel and American music are undeniable. We know this film will resonate with our viewers.”
TV One Synopsis
The Marvin Sapp biopic chronicles the prominent gospel music artist and preacher’s Michigan upbringing, battle against teenage alcohol abuse, love for MaLinda Prince, rise in the music industry and growth in his faith. Sapp came into prominence more than 30 years ago as a member of Commissioned and is widely known for his award-winning, chart-topping crossover hit “Never Would Have Made It.” Currently, he is an author, radio show host and senior pastor of The Chosen Vessel Cathedral in Dallas, Texas and pastor emeritus of Lighthouse Full Life Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan – the church he founded with his late wife.
