Can Men Have Platonic Friendships with Women? This Is Twitter’s Opinion

Platonic Friendships

The topic of whether men and women can form platonic friendships (or not) is among the most-debatable, especially in today’s society.

Recently, a Twitter user by the name of @diosaaaliyah went viral after making a controversial tweet that many agreed to disagree with… and vice versa.

“a n*gga’s ‘homegirls’ really be failed relationship/talking stages but you ain’t hear that from me,” she wrote on the social media platform.

a nigga’s “homegirls” really be failed relationship/talking stages but you ain’t hear that from me

— pervy saage (@diosaaaliyah) June 27, 2022

Following the post, fellow followers (and non-followers) weighed in. Some stood by the fact that male-and-female connections do exist without the romantic aspect, while others clung to experiences that they’ve had with the opposite sex that have said otherwise.

Take a look at some of the responses below…

Not true ……I got homegirls I never fucked and we still good……that’s why it’s not good to assume shit #lightbright

— Calvin Bruton (@CalvinBruton101) June 27, 2022

Actually false so a guy and a girl can’t just be friends and both genuinely want to care about eachother and want the best without drama and stress you know girls are the best friends a guy can ever have they won’t do you like your homies so ?

Take that and multiply it for women’s “male friends”

— Mr TallDark-Handsome (@ImStretchStacks) June 27, 2022

Nah, we was just fucking and now we cool until the BF finds out

It definitely applies to who it applies. I know both sets of men 😆

— Bianca Janee (@MsViintage) June 27, 2022

I’d rather you didnt speak so loudly

— Bruhlohim (@PRX_UNO) June 27, 2022

You’re not totally wrong. There are often a few in the mix who fit that description if we’re being honest…. and I request a heads up whenever that is.

No cap. This how my and my bff started out and I wouldn’t change it for the world

— #D4L FLEEZY (@_ifleezy_) June 27, 2022

Not true. Y’all just don’t know how to set boundaries! It’s honestly sad that y’all don’t believe folks can be strictly friends. 🥴

— Candace (@The_Sliim_one) June 27, 2022

Them stages be one sided, they be talking and we be oblivious/disinterested.

— llmdtx (@UKnoNthngJonSno) June 27, 2022

Naw b that’s all you. My homies are my homies. Never made a move. We just vibe and keep it 100

— Nobody Asked You Alicia (@AGorgeousLifexo) June 27, 2022

Some relationships aren’t genuine some are it’s up to the individuals to be vigilant and also to set boundaries as well.

— Essence (@LoveAkuaN) June 27, 2022

I can confirm this with multiple examples. Lol

That’s a woman thing. Stop projecting

— Homer✌🏾 (@AjaBajaaaa) June 27, 2022

*say niggas don’t wanna do nothing but fuck on you without saying it

— Macc On The Moon (@itsmaccman) June 27, 2022

Lol sometimes that’s just how it was meant to be. Just because we didn’t work out romantically doesn’t mean we can’t be cool.

— Tone. ☘️ (@TonyNelsn) June 27, 2022

And y’all wonder why niggas don’t want y’all having guy friends lmaoooooooo

Speak for yourself shorty.. I ain’t showing up to practice if I got cut from the team

— big darryl. (@OldManDarryl) June 27, 2022

Duh I will continue to say it, men and women cannot be friends outside of some kind of family or religious obligation/group, someone friend zoned the other at some point but 9/10 if given the chance it would be some cheek clappin

— Zero X Machina🎶 (@Zeroxmachina) June 27, 2022

True to an extent, but if talking to someone you realize they not what you would want in a partner, but super dope and mad cool. Why couldn’t a genuine platonic friendship materialize

— Rah The Uncoupled Pod!!! (@dakiddpryme) June 27, 2022

This is the equivalent to calling men that women are no longer intimate with your “ friends” 😬. We all the same 🫶🏾

— Damien Monroe (@Just_ballinn) June 27, 2022

Sometimes that’s true…but I have real male friends. Never intimate.

— TiiL (@MzTeel) June 27, 2022

I mean it is true that most men won’t befriend women unless they’re sexually attracted to them but I’ve never “talked to”, dated, or sexually engaged any of the men I consider friends so definitely not a catch all.

— Kady (@KadyRoxz) June 27, 2022

I had to check my friendships but then I realized I don’t even like talking to people for this to apply to me lol. At most I’ve developed attraction to them and expressed it

— Dora Milaje Stan (@_Im_That_Guy_) June 27, 2022

Failed talking stage that turned into a friendship… that sounds kinda thurl when you think about it. Not everyone has to fall out and the connection was obviously genuine if something came out of it. This tweet was kinda condescending but yeah

My ex. All his friends were women he dated. Every. Single. One.

— Jasmine (@6lackhottie) June 27, 2022

Nah most my real homegirls was women I got along with outside of conventional attraction
