“How many of you have lost your faith because you saw somebody else die with what you were about to go through,” Whitehead, of Leaders of Tomorrow International Ministries asked before being interrupted by the men who broke into the church.

On sighting them, the Brooklyn bishop instinctively dropped down and cooperated with them. According to him, he wanted to protect the lives of those present.

“I don’t want my parishioners hurt. I’ve got women and children there,” He told CBS news. Whitehead said there were around 100 congregants in the room, including women and children. “My church is traumatized. The women and children are still crying. Babies are still crying,” he expressed.

“As I got down, one went to my wife and took all her jewelry and had the gun in front of my 8-month-old baby’s face. Took off my bishop’s ring, and my wedding band and took off my bishop’s chain, and then I had chains underneath my robe and he started tapping my neck to see if anything else. So that means they knew. They watched and they knew that I have other jewelry,” he explained.

Bishop Lamor M. Whitehead and his wife were robbed of every jewelry they had which according to the police report, was worth over $400,000.

He is known for being good friends with Eric Adams, the second Black mayor of the city of New York.

“I was arrested at 15 years old … and because people embraced me when I was arrested, I embrace Lamor Whitehead,” the Mayor said in 2016. “I will continue to give him the support and guidance that was given to me to become a cop, a state senator, and a borough president.”

The Brooklyn bishop is also familiar with the popular rapper, 50 Cent. Back in 2018, 50 Cent was honoured at his old church when he attended the “Bridging the Gap” event.

Commenting on the reason he may be a target, Whitehead revealed that he helped turn in a suspect in a case of the fatal shooting of 48-year-old Daniel Enriquez.

The culprits escaped the scene in a white Mercedes and are yet to be caught. Meanwhile, the Bishop advises them to turn themselves in and says he has forgiven them. Fortunately, there were no casualties.
