Dave Grohl breaks down during the tribute concert for the late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins that passed away back in March after reportedly experiencing chest pains in his hotel in Bogotá, Colombia. The ceremony had many other artists and personalities in attendance. Among them were Dave Chappelle, Elton John, Jason Sudeikis, Liam Gallagher, Paul McCartney, and more.

At the beginning of the concert at London’s Wembley Stadium, Grohl addressed the crowd to introduce the ceremony: “Ladies and gentlemen, tonight we’ve gathered here to celebrate the life, the music, and the love of our dear friend, our bandmate, our brother Taylor Hawkins. For those of you who knew him personally, you know that no one else could make you smile or laugh or dance or sing like he could. And for those of you that admired him from afar, I’m sure you’ve all felt the same thing.”

Grohl continued his address where he asked that the crowd sing, dance, cry and scream.

“So tonight, we’ve gathered with family and his closest friends, his musical heroes and greatest inspirations, to bring you a gigantic fking night for a gigantic fking person. So sing and dance, and laugh, and cry and fking scream and make some fking noise so that he can hear us right now,” he added. “‘Cause you know what? It’s going to be a long fking night, right? Are you ready??”

Later during the ceremony, the American musician and founder of Foo Fighters lost it and broke into tears as he and his bandmates took to the stage for the first time since Hawkins’s death in March to sing their hit “Times Like These.”

Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins seemed to share a very close bond that went beyond being bandmates. Also, prior to Taylor Hawking’s death, Hawkings had referred to Grohl as his “fking life partner” to Entertainment Weekly.

Here is a clip to the tribute concert.
