Is Betting Legal In Indonesia?

Even though many of the islands, like Bali and Jakarta, are popular tourist spots, the government of the country has taken great measures to ban all forms of gambling.

People say that online gambling is growing a lot in the rest of Asia, but Indonesia is going against the trend and pushing hard in the reverse direction. Even though a recent report says that the industry in Asia will grow from $34 billion to almost $80 billion within the next few years, this is not the case.

Online gambling is definitely against the law in Indonesia, but the government’s one-size-fits-all approach has left a lot of gaps and loopholes. Putting aside what the government says, there isn’t much stopping Indonesians from betting offshore at the moment.

Online Casinos And Indonesian Gamblers

It’s important to note that the Indonesian government doesn’t have any legal restrictions on online casinos. They have no trouble signing up customers from Indonesia and will accept payment in IDR or other ways, like cryptocurrency, to get an account started.

With that said, gambling sites want Indonesian people to use their services and are open to assisting them in getting started. Online casinos have become very popular in a short period of time therefore finding the best online casino in Indonesia is becoming easier. Offshore operators offer everything, from online slots to online roulette casinos.

Online Casinos in Indonesia

Even though the government is trying hard to stop it, online casinos are still very popular in Indonesia. Both sports betting and table games bring in thousands of pounds in bets every day. In 2010, a news story said that two online casinos hosted in Indonesia were shut down because they were making $50,000 a day.

In addition to a number of imported sports that have become very popular, badminton has become a very popular sport in Indonesia. The nation’s team has won 13 Thomas Cups, which are held every two years. Illegal local betting sites also offer odds on a number of Asian and Indonesian sports that are unique to those countries.

Indonesia’s minister for communication and information technology said that the government will do everything it can to block and get rid of online gambling sites. Plate said that the authority has the resources to check if these kinds of systems are real, but it requires a great deal of effort to do so.

Since 2018, more than 500,000 illegal sites have indeed been blocked.

Best Way To Gamble Online In Indonesia

Indonesia is a country that has a lot of control over what its people see every day. They do this by blocking websites that don’t follow the rules of their Sharia law.

This means that you can’t gamble online if you are not from Indonesia and are traveling the country for business or pleasure.

There is a way to solve this problem, which is good news. You can use a virtual private network (VPN) to access your sports betting accounts safely from a server in another part of the world.

Because Indonesia is strict about going against the government and violating the law, extra measures must be taken to assure your connection remains safe and untraceable when you place a bet online from Indonesia.

Also, it’s important to know that using a VPN doesn’t break the rules for most gambling sites, but it might if you mostly bet from outside the country where you set up your account. When utilizing a VPN in Indonesia, please use a basic level of caution.

Choosing A VPN

It is important to do the proper research and make smart choices when it comes to choosing the best VPN in Indonesia.

You should make it a point to have the VPN already installed prior to departing to Indonesia whether you are going there for business or pleasure it makes no difference.

Some VPN sites have been banned in Indonesia, and there’s nothing worse than choosing a site and then not being able to get to it when you get there.

Tips for using a VPN for gambling in Indonesia

  • Set up the client-server on every device that you want to use with the VPN.
  • Create a fresh connection on the device you want to use and look through the list of servers. You’ll need to find a server that’s geographically close to Indonesia, has fast speeds, especially for downloading, and is up and running when you usually gamble.
  • Check your existing IP address to make sure the connection is correct after you’ve made it. It should be the same as the remote server’s country.
  • Go to your favorite site for online gambling and have fun.

Conclusion

At the moment the free lottery is the only legal and licensed way to legally gamble in Indonesia, but the government is putting more and more pressure on even this. Until the government makes some major changes to the way they do things, international websites will be the only place where people can gamble for real money in the country.
