After over two decades since the release of the original and nearly a decade since the sequel, The Best Man is once again coming back to the screen. It was announced in early 2021 that the latest installment of the franchise would be The Best Man limited series of 10 episodes as ordered by the streaming service, Peacock. The series will premiere on December 22nd on Peacock.

The show titled, The Best Man: Final Chapters will be directed by the original writer and producer of the first two movies; Malcolm D. Lee. Lee will also be joined by former ‘Insecure’ executive producer Dayna L. North and The Witcher’s Sean Daniel. The series would still be produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group for whom Lee has produced and directed two other successful feature comedies; Girl’s Trip and Night School.

The plot follows a group of friends as they navigate love, and friendship years after getting together in college. The series is set to tell a modern story “as relationships evolve and past grievances resurface in the unpredictable stages of midlife crisis meets midlife renaissance.”

It is confirmed that The Best Man: Final Chapters is going to star every member of the original cast: Regina Hall, Taye Diggs, Terrence Howard, Sanaa Lathan, Nia Long, Morris Chestnut, Melissa De Sousa, and Harold Perrineau except Monica Calhoun whose character died in the sequel; The Best Man Holiday. All of these have since become household favorites for their performances in both films.

Both the original and the sequel were huge successes in the box office with the original grossing at $34 Million in 1999 and the sequel at $70 Million in 2013. A third installment, The Best Man Wedding, which was initially scheduled for a 2016 release, was delayed indefinitely due to scheduling issues. Both films have since become a classic in the romantic-comedy genre, earning multiple Black Reel and NAACP Image awards.

After the announcement of the revival in February 2021, there followed a period of silence until early March 2021 when there was a report that confirmed that filming for The Best Man: Final Chapters had indeed begun. A member of the cast, Harold Perrineau who plays (Julian Murch) was spotted filming a scene near The W Hotel in Hoboken, New Jersey. Perrineau was reportedly being filmed as he casually walked up the block along the side of the hotel on River between 2nd and 4th on March 15th.

Filming began on March 14th.
