Legendary singer Ne-Yo is set to release a biopic documentary about his life and successful career entitled In My Own Words.

Sharing the same name as his 2006 debut album, the documentary will follow “Ne-Yo’s journey to making his first album, balancing his career with family life, and reflecting on the challenges of 2020”, according to a press release. It will feature intimate interviews, behind-the-scenes footage, and poignant reflections on the importance of family and the events that have shaped Ne-Yo’s life and the world.

In My Own Words also offers “a unique and personal look at the musician’s story of determination and perseverance.” Check out the trailer below:

There is no exact release date for the documentary as of yet, but a press release states that it will arrive on Ne-Yo’s official YouTube channel by the end of February.

Ne-Yo isn’t the only high-profile musician set to be the subject of an upcoming documentary. On Friday February 17, 2023, it was announced that Young Thug and Gunna’s ongoing YSL RICO case is being turned into a Hulu documentary.

The hour-long documentary, made by ABC News Studios, is titled Rap Trap: Hip-Hop on Trial and will focus on the sprawling criminal case against Thug, Gunna and their Atlanta-based collective while exploring the debate around rap lyrics being used as evidence in criminal prosecutions. Airing February 23, 2023, on Hulu, the documentary will feature interviews with 300 Entertainment CEO Kevin Liles, Young Thug’s ex-girlfriend Jerrika Karlae and other artists including Fat Joe, Killer Mike and will.i.am.

Kanye West’s recent whirlwind of controversy is also being turned into a documentary and podcast courtesy of the BBC. The British broadcaster revealed on Wednesday February 15, 2023, that the Yeezy-centric content will explore the “rollercoaster life and career of Kanye West”. Titled We Need to Talk About Kanye, the one-off documentary will follow award-winning journalist Mobeen Azhar as he wrestles with Ye’s current place in pop culture following his series of antisemitic outbursts in 2022.
