Vena E., known as Pretty Vee on social media, an entertainment mogul known for her hilarious skits and funny dances, sits with Channing Crowder, Fred Taylor, and Ryan Clark for a conversation covering her journey from childhood aspirations to adulthood stardom.

Growing up with her parents in South Florida, one of Vee’s greatest motivators and influences was her mother, who she said was ordained as a pastor eight years ago, is an educator, and a constant force of encouragement to Vee’s ambitions to follow an unlikely career path.

Clark asks the 31-year-old what drew her to the art form of comedy. She tells him that she always knew she had a calling; she just didn’t know in what area. She went to college to pursue her four-year degree majoring in Communications, and along with that major came job opportunities to work in radio.

Seeing her parents work hard all of her life, Vee worked several hourly jobs while trying to figure out the next steps to put her in a position to chase her dream, but the catalyst to start her quest was when Vee was fired and credits that moment of being let go to giving her the push to pursue her passion.

She said she was working as music CEO Arnold Taylor’s administration assistant, and they used to book talents such as rapper Da Baby. One day, she looked up and realized she’d been fired from all of her small-time jobs and knew that it was time to give comedy a try.

“Wait, what’d you get fired for, were you a terrible worker?” the interviewer asked.

Vee replied, “No… I think I was just late. And Arnold told me, like, ‘Vee, I don’t think this is where you want to be! You are so stuck in your world of comedy; you need to go out and get that!’ So, I always tell Arnold when I see him, I say ‘Thank you, thank for firing me, because it pushed me, it excelled me to where I’m at right now.'”

Trying to break into (what was long considered) the “man’s world” of comedy, according to Vee, she was never intimidated and always motivated to reinvent herself and find new ways to use her skits to generate attention. Living by the philosophy of a delay is not denial, Vee never took a “no” as a “never” and turned every closed door into another opportunity to go after what her heart desired.

She speaks of having to audition for Nick Cannon’s MTV hit, Wild ‘n Out, twice, before securing the role that she has now. Reportedly, many of the show’s producers and cast members didn’t think that she was funny her first time around. She said that she buckled down and went back to her skits, the thing that got her recognized by big shows like Wild ‘n Out in the first place.

Vee also expresses how she believes the world of comedy is changing as far as the way comedy is presented. Through the use of social media, more comedians like herself, Desi Banks, Kerwin Clairborne, Jess Hilarious, just to name a few, are doing comedy skits to reach their audiences and less and less stand-up.

“Now Instagram is our resume! You go on there, you’re getting booked. They don’t know what you’re going to do, just what you do,” says Vee. She also feels social media allows her to utilize all of her characters in a short amount of time and believes it is the new way of comedy. She says she’ll be putting out a new sketch comedy show on YouTube called “Vee’s House” that will allow her to use all of her well-known characters, and maybe some new ones!

Pretty Vee and Rick Ross

Pretty Vee also acknowledges that she is dating rapper Rick Ross, but she (too) like Diddy’s “Shawty Wop,” Yung Miami, is single. She says she loves lemon pepper wings and thinks rapper/Wingstop franchise owner Rick Ross is a great man, but that’s as much as she will speak on their relationship. She says she does want to get married and have a family one day, but she is also focused on her career, and through God, she can do both if it be His will.

As far as her career, she wants to master a one-woman show like Whoopi Goldberg! She is striving for longevity in Hollywood while asking God to keep her centered within the business.
