Uncertain how the Beyhive feels about their queen, Beyoncé, losing her blue check mark on Twitter. What’s the reason behind it, though? We break down the Beyonce twitter blue check mark drama.
Twitter started taking away the blue checks on Thursday (April 20) from accounts that don’t pay a monthly charge to keep them.
When Twitter first implemented the blue-check system, there were around 300,000 verified users, many of them were journalists, athletes, and public celebrities. Late morning Pacific, the checks—which once signified that Twitter had confirmed the account’s identity—started to vanish from these users’ pages.
On Thursday, prominent users like Oprah Winfrey, President Donald Trump, Pope Francis, and Beyonce lost access to their Twitter blue checks.
Individual web users can maintain their marks for as little as $8 per month, while organizations can verify themselves for as much as $1,000 each month, plus an additional $50 per month for each affiliate or staffer account. Unlike the prior blue check distributed during the platform’s pre-Musk management, Twitter no longer verifies individual accounts.
Beyonce & Many Celebs Have Twitter Blue Check Stripped
LeBron James (NBA superstar), Stephen King (iconic writer), and William Shatner (Star Trek) have all declined to sign up as users, despite the fact that as of Thursday, all three public figures possessed a blue checkmark indicating that the account has paid for verification.
“My Twitter account says I’ve subscribed to Twitter Blue. I haven’t,” King emphasized. “My Twitter account says I’ve given a phone number. I haven’t. Just so you know.”
Musk countered King’s tweet with, “You’re welcome namaste.” In a later tweet, the Tesla mogul claimed he’s “paying for a few personally,” such King, James, and Shatner.

Earlier in the week, legendary songstress Dionne Warwick tweeted on the site that Twitter Blue “is an absolute mess.”
Previously, she had sworn not to pay for her blue check mark, noting that the funds “could (and will) be going toward my extra hot lattes.”
Warwick’s blue check was also seized on Thursday.
