Transitioning from acting on Degrassi to being a rapper came with an abundance of doubters — however, Drake said one NBA star showed him love despite the naysayers. The Drake and LeBron James relationship goes back a couple decades at this point.
LeBron James once supported Drizzy at a very formative yet crucial time in his career, as the hip hop sensation recently recalled.
On August 21 in Los Angeles at the Crypto.com Arena the “God’s Plan” hitmaker took the stage while being led through the audience by King James and his son Bronny.
The Toronto native paused during his performance to consider his long-standing friendship with the NBA’s all-time top scorer, which began when he attended the release party for his So Far Gone mixtape in 2009.
“I don’t know if you saw who walked me to the stage tonight, but the gentleman who walked me to the stage tonight is my brother, he goes by the name of LeBron James,” the 6 God spoke to the concertgoers.

“And in 2009, when nobody believed in anything I had going on, that same guy showed up to a release party for a mixtape that was called So Far Gone.”
Drake went on, “He came all the way to Toronto, Canada to support me when I was trying to figure out how I would live my dreams. So tonight, however many years later, it’s an honor to be inside his building while we’re both still on this earth. I gotta do this building justice tonight.”

The connection between Drizzy and LeBron dates back roughly 15 years, and both superstars continue to rule their respective sports.
Drake has even mentioned the basketball god by name on a number of songs over his career, going all the way back to 2010’s “You Know, You Know.”
