An increasing number of Black celebrities have chosen to exclude meat from their diets, and the trend is growing. The movement is a commitment to health, ethical treatment of animals, and environmental sustainability. Here’s a look at some prominent Black celebrities who don’t eat meat!

Beyoncé doesn’t eat meat — but she does eat seafood.

The Queen Bey herself, Beyoncé, has been a vocal advocate for a meatless diet. She and her husband, Jay-Z, launched the 22 Days Nutrition challenge, encouraging fans to try a vegan lifestyle for 22 days. According to Marca, Beyoncé is no longer vegan and has since adopted a pescatarian lifestyle – which includes eating fish and other seafood.

 

Lewis Hamilton says going vegan helped him become a better athlete.

Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton adopted a vegan diet in 2017, driven by concerns for animal welfare and the environment. Lewis has been outspoken about how the diet has improved his athletic performance and recovery times.

“With this new plant-based diet, I can have more carbs, which is contradictory of what you’d normally have thought diet-wise,” he told CNN, adding, “Physically, I feel the best I’ve ever felt. I feel incredibly clean and healthy.”

 

Erykah Badu hasn’t eaten meat since the 90s.

Soul singer Erykah Badu has been a vegan since the late 1990s and is known for her holistic lifestyle. She frequently discusses veganism’s spiritual and health benefits, emphasizing how it helps her maintain her vocal health and overall wellness. Her diet consists of raw fruits, vegetables, nuts, and other grains. However, the singer doesn’t subscribe to the vegan label.

“I wouldn’t call myself a vegan because I don’t subscribe to any type of organizations,” she told People. “It’s just what’s best for my body.”

 

Venus Williams is a “chegan.”

Tennis superstar Venus Williams adopted a raw diet after being diagnosed with Sjögren’s Syndrome, an autoimmune disease. Venus has spoken about how her diet helps manage her symptoms and improves her energy levels, which is crucial for her performance on the court. However, Venus has admitted that she does consume some animal products – although she stays away from meat. The tennis legend referred to herself as a “chegan” during an interview with Vegan Kind.

Andre 3000 didn’t eat meat for 15 years.

Andre 3000, one half of the hip-hop duo OutKast, is another Black celebrity who stopped eating meat for a period of time. According to The Economic Times, Andre was a vegan for 15 years before incorporating some animal products back into his diet.

Common says he’s a better rapper now that he doesn’t eat meat.

Common is a longtime vegan and a passionate advocate for the lifestyle. He often speaks about the health benefits of meatless diets and has even suggested that it made him a better rapper. “As soon as I removed meat from my diet, I started to feel a clarity I didn’t have before. It sounds funny, but I feel like I was rapping better,” he joked to People.

Now that these black celebrities are adopting a meatless lifestyle, the trend seems to be picking up. And thanks to the growing popularity of vegan restaurants like, Slutty Vegan, enjoying a meat-free meal is more convenient than ever.
