Missy Elliott Net Worth & Music Career Timeline

Melissa Arnette Elliott was born on July 1, 1971 in Portsmouth, VA. She is a well-known rapper, songwriter, record producer and singer. She began her career in the early 90s as a member of the R&B girl group Sista. The group later was introduced to Swing Mob — a collective of musically talented artists led by Devante Swing & Jodeci. In 1994, the group dropped it’s debut album 4 All The Sistahs Around the World. It was with that collective that she met super producer Timbaland, who at the time was just starting to make a nae for himself.

Later, Missy left the group to work with Timbaland full-time as a songwriter and producer. Missy created successful releases for 702, Aaliyah, SWV and Total during the time spent working alongside Timbaland. By 1997, she dropped her debut solo album Supa Dupa Fly.

Supa Dupa Fly reached number three on the Billboard 200, while her single “Sock It 2 Me” featuring Da Brat, reached Billboard Hot 100. From there, Missy Elliott dropped seven total albums.

She has received a numerous amount of accolades such as winning four Grammy Awards, selling over 40 million records worldwide and becoming the best selling female rapper in the music industry according to Billboard. She has also been the first woman to be inducted in the Songwriters Hall of Fame and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (2023).

In 2020, Billboard ranked her “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)” number five on their list of the 100 greatest music video artists of all time. And in 2021, she was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She may be the most influential rapper of her generation. I guess that’s why she has a net worth of over $50 million.

What is Graves’  Disease?

As a young child, Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott was introduced to abuse at a young age. Watching her mother experience domestic violence, Missy worked twice as hard to be able to afford getting her mother out of the situation. But that wasn’t the only obstacle that she faced in her life. She was diagnosed in 2008 with Graves’ Disease but her fans didn’t realize all that she endured until 2011 when she spoke on her diagnosis to People. We previously wrote about the diagnosis and the impact it had on her career.

But what is Graves’ Disease? It is an autoimmune disease that can cause hyperthyroidism or overactive thyroid. Thyroid hormones control the way your body uses energy, so they affect nearly every organ in your body including the way your heart beats — according to NIH.

“This is an incredible time in my life where I am experiencing so many milestones firsts. Fans have been asking me to tour forever but I wanted to wait until I felt the time was right because I knew if I was ever going to do it, I had to do it big, and I had to do it with family,” she states to ABC News.
