Fans of Playboi Carti have been asking for a new album for years. Carti, whose real name is Jordan Terrell Carter, has been teasing fans with cryptic messages and snippets of new music. His last album, Whole Lotta Red, dropped in December 2020 and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. Fans have been eagerly awaiting his next move, and the announcement of a new album has sent hip-hop heads into a frenzy. So, when is Playboi Carti dropping? Here are all the hints we have about the release date of Playboi Carti’s 2024 album so far.
When is Playboi Carti’s 2024 album dropping? Details on the release date.
Playboi Carti said he’s dropping I AM MUSIC in 2024. Speculation about the album’s content has been rampant, with fans dissecting every clue and snippet for hints about the new direction Carti might take. The rapper’s producer, Cardo, explained that Carti took nearly four years to master his 2024 album, which, as of this writing, has no set release date.
“I’m going to Atlanta to finish up Carti’s s–t. It’s been crazy — in a good way. It’s been crazy fun, just being able to wake up and he decides to drop a song you produced. It’s weird,” Cardo said during an interview with Lucid Monday (via Billboard). “I’ve known Carti since 2016, but me and him have been working on this new album for a good four years.”
For his part, Carti has suggested that I AM MUSIC will be his “best” work yet. During a sitdown with Adin Ross, Carti called the album “mind-blowing.” Adding, “My best. My very best — it’s actually insane.”
Playboi has postponed his 2024 tour.
Playboi Carti may be gearing up to drop an album in 2024, but fans will have to wait a bit longer to catch the rapper on tour. Carti scheduled his Antagonist Tour to begin in September 2023, with stops in America and Europe. However, the rapper postponed the show days before the first stop. Unfortunately, Playboi Carti hasn’t announced any new tour dates and there are no current plans to reschedule the performance.
Because of this, some fans expect Carti to also postpone the release of I AM MUSIC. “It’s not dropping Carti gonna rename the album to ‘2025 music’ at this point,” one fan tweeted. Another added, “How long we gonna keep believing these lies? LMFAO. The album is a myth at this point. my dawg done restarted the rollout 4x.”
Meanwhile, speculation about Carti’s album is growing. DJ Akademiks claimed that the Atlanta rapper sent him the tracklist for I AM MUSIC, which included a slate of collaborations. Pharrell Williams, Ken Carson, Lil Uzi Vert, and Tyler, The Creator, are reportedly included on the project. However, Carti has not confirmed Akadamik’s claims.
