What started as a playful Halloween moment for the Casey family has sparked debate all over the internet, with some questioning DJ Envy’s choice to let his young daughter dress up as Lil’ Kim from the “Crush on You” music video. The DJ Envy backlash has been everywhere for the not well thought out choice.
The original Lil Kim video featured the rapper, in her prime, in scantily clad outfits and colorful wigs. It remains a staple for the 90s era and has inspired female rappers for decades. But… it wasn’t PG 13 then, and certainly isn’t PG 13 now. Not the song or the visual.
You can watch the original “Crush On You” video below:
Despite the DJ Envy backlash, the video remains live on DJ Envy’s social media. Watch at your own descretion below:

In the social media post, The Breakfast Club co-host FaceTimes with Lil’ Kim, who enthusiastically approves of the costume. Envy’s daughter accurately recreates Lil’ Kim’s colorful style from the iconic 1997 video, which featured appearances from some of the biggest artists of the 90s.
Although some people approved of her costume, a lot of other people feel like for her age, that costume was too much. One fan straight up asked, “Why she couldn’t do an age appropriate costume?”
Why she couldn’t do an age appropriate costume ? Not to mention she wasn’t even alive when lil Kim was rapping so did she want this or did you ? I don’t see a 7 year old going “ daddy I wana be lil Kim for Halloween 😭”

Another fan shared, “this is not it. Your wife could’ve dressed up like Lil Kim and kept the kids out of it.”
Yikes Envy! this is not it. Your wife could’ve dressed up like Lil Kim and kept the kids out of it. The lyrics are inappropriate. Everything about the video is cringe. Just a terrible idea. Parents please do better and let the little girls dress like a princess or the little…

The sentiment was shared by most people who commented.
Listen I don’t tell people what they should or shouldn’t do with their own kids but sometimes is best to BE MINDFUL of how you’re presenting your kids on the internet with a bunch of weirdos & keep things kid friendly

However, several celebrities did show love, including the aforementioned Lil Kim and Cardi B. Wonder if they would dress their own children up as the Hardcore rapper.
The Envy family also recreated the Aaliyah, “One In A Million” video.
