The Super Bowl halftime performance in New Orleans in 2025 broke Lil Wayne’s heart, following the show’s decision to include Kendrick Lamar as the headliner rather than Lil Wayne sparked a heated internet controversy.
On Nov 3, Lil Wayne addressed how the show’s decision affected him emotionally during his performance at Lil WeezyAna Fest. He explained that he put in the effort and positioned himself to get the gig after wanting to perform at the Super Bowl in front of his family.
The rapper said, “That moment I said to myself, ‘I wanna be on stage for the Super Bowl, one day, in front of my mom.’ And I worked my ass off to get that f*cking position.”
The rapper then added that the Super Bowl Halftime Show was taken away from him. He said, “and it was ripped away from me.”
As the audience applauded, he said, “But this motherf*cking moment right here, man, they can not take that. I can not let them have that.”

The Native Orleans native had previously shared his disappointment back in September following the announcement of Kendrick Lamar as the headliner. In an IG video, he said,
“I thought there was nothing better than that spot, that stage, and that platform in my city. It broke me. I’m just trying to put me back together.”
He clearly admitted that the announcement, “…hurt a lot.”
He further stated that he played a role by assuming he would get the position, saying, “I blame myself for not being mentally prepared for a letdown. For just automatically mentally putting myself in that position, like someone told me that was my position.”
