It’s hard to have perfect matchups in some of these Verzuz, but if the goal is for these artists to get their flowers, then they are still doing their part. The latest matchup pits B2K vs Pretty Ricky, a battle of groups, though they have 2 very different styles. After joining forces on The Millennium Tour Presents: The Boys 4 Life Tour, as co-headliners with Bow Wow, this just made sense as a battle.
B2K emerged on the scene officially in 2001, after a couple years of perfecting the roster. Their lead single, “Uh Huh” took off like wild fire and the self-titled debut album went on to peak at No. 2 on the Billboard charts. They released 2 more albums, including a Christmas album, and the No. 1 album, Pandemonium! Surprisingly, in hindsight, that is the end of their story as a group. While there were a large number of hits over those 2 albums, it certainly wasn’t an extended run for the group. The Omarion solo career helped keep the group alive, but there’s been talk that the Verzuz is supposed to just be group records, which also makes sense because Omarion had his Verzuz with Mario, and Pleasure P was part of the Verzuz with Ray J, Sammie and Bobby V (though it took place on the same day).
Pretty Ricky popped out in May 2005 with their debut album, Bluestars. The single, “Grind On Me” started to bubble in 2004. Shortly thereafter they joined the Scream Tour and the connection with B2K has remained ever since. The debut album went certified Gold, but it never escalated to the heights of a B2K album. Two years later however, they released their sophomore album, Late Night Special, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Chart. Pleasure P left the group shortly thereafter and that killed their momentum. The group’s 3rd album did not do well after they added a new member, and these days that project can’t even be found on streaming services. While Pleasure went on to have some solo success, the expectation is that he doesn’t do too many of his solo songs during this Verzuz either.
