Legends. Artists. Moguls. These are just some adjectives to describe R&B artists Marques Houston and Omarion. Since the early 2000s, these two individuals have not only changed the trajectory of music but also given their audiences movies that will last a lifetime. From the stage to the screen, Marques Houston and Omarion haven’t stopped giving the fans what they love most: their passion for their art. Both men have given different things to the culture, but what remains true is that they did a lot of it together. Rumor had it they were cousins, or even brothers, but is that true? We take a deep dive into the history of Marques Houston and Omarion. Are Marques Houston and Omarion related?

What’s up with everyone wanting people in the industry to be related?

For years, everyone has run with the idea that most of the group members that we had back in the day were related in some way. Truth is, most of the time we were wrong. But more often than not, it was because it was the cool thing to do in the industry, pretend to be related so that the story of success was a little more believable.

For instance, we thought Pretty Ricky’s members were all related because we were told (and they also stated in interviews) that they were. Same goes for Lil Fizz and Jhene Aiko.  Remember when they were saying that they were related in those early B2K days? Guess you have to be a certain age to remember that.

So what would possess us to believe that Marques Houston and Omarion were related? They were out there saying it!!!

Marques Houston and Omarion friendship started in the industry

The history between the two artists goes way back; it all started with both men being under Chris Stokes label, T.U.G. (The Ultimate Group) back in the late 90s.   Stokes is a well-known talent manager turned director, writer and actor himself.  Stokes’ public image took a bit of a hit when Raz B levied some serious accusations against him, and he seemingly left the music industry.  But before he left, he was a big part of the success that was Immature, then IMx,  the Marques Houston solo career, B2K and the Omarion solo career.  Needless to say, O’Ryan and Jhene Aiko were also signed to the label… and Jhene’s real life sister Mila J got her start on T.U.G. as well.

Part of their story as a record label was that they were all family.  And because they grew up together maybe they felt like cousins.  They just weren’t all related by blood.

Although Marques Houston and Omarion are not related, they do have siblings. Marques Houston has three siblings: an older brother, an older sister, and a younger sister. Omarion has several siblings, including O’Ryan, who most people are familiar with due to being in the industry himself [O’Ryan just happens to be Jhene Aiko’s baby daddy, we covered that history before, too]. Omarion’s other siblings are two sisters and three other brothers. So to conclude the mystery on whether Marques Houston and Omarion are related, I guess the mystery has been solved, and it turns out that they are not related at all.
