Compton’s very own, Steve Lacy released his third studio album on Friday, July 17, 2026. Simply titled, Oh yeah?, The album finds Steve Lacy four years after his Gemini Rights project, which was released on July, 15, 2022. That project featured the viral hit “Bad Habit,” among other tracks. His success as a solo artist, following his work as a member of The Internet had fans debating whether or not he is one of the best modern alternative R&B artists.
Steve Lacy has collaborated with a number of artists over the years, but his fans have been longing for a new project. They get that with Oh yeah? The 10-track project shows off the creative side of him, unlike any feature could, with a fresh take 4 years later.
It didn’t take long before the reactions on social media started coming in for the Oh yeah? album. The project’s single, “the feeling” was released about six weeks ago, and that helped create a build up for the project. Despite the success of the single and the anticipation, the early reviews for the project were not great.

While the early reactions have been a bit underwhelming, it may be expected considering the extended time away. Fans need to remain tapped in, and some times it take an artist a bit of time to get back in the good graces of fans, after some time off. Some fans were expecting a 2026 version of “Bad Habit,” but that’s not realistic for an artist after four years off .
It remains to be seen if another one of the songs off this project can compete with “the feeling” for a song of the summer. Or if something can dominate the charts like his previous work.
