You may have heard a number of people talk about how expensive food is in New York, but despite what you may think New York is a great place to eat out and have fun if you know what to look for and where to go. With more than 20,000 restaurants New York is a food eater’s paradise with a wide variety of food styles from many different cultures and meals ranging from $12 to $300. For special events $300 dollars may be okay for you, but you don’t want to spend that every time you want to hang out with a group of friends. Here are a few ways to save money next time you go out.
Take advantage of coupons
You may have thought that coupons were something for your local grocery store, but many restaurants have taken advantage of using coupons to bring in more customers. Places like Resturant.com offers you a $25 dollar gift certificate to local restaurants in your area. Diningfever.com is another great web site that offers discounts on meals.
Start Dinner Early
Many restaurants will offer an early bird special to draw in customers between the hours of 5-7 pm. Cucina di Pesce 87 E. 4th St. is a great Italian food restaurant to eat at with a budget of about $13.00 for their early bird menu. La Paella is another great place they are located on 214 E 9thSt. and serve great Spanish style food. If you are craving French food try Alouette on 2588 Broadway, nr. 98th St., a stylish French bistro restaurant.
Plan Ahead
You are sure of saving money if you plan ahead of time. If you know you have a night out coming up take time to do a little research find out which restaurants have dinner and lunch specials on certain days of the week.
Also be sure to take advantage of your friends and co-workers, ask them about great places to eat and save. Once you have a list of a few places to eat out you can go back to this list when you are in a pinch for time and need to find a place to eat fast. It may take you a little scouting time but your wallet will thank you in the end when you realize how much you are saving each month.
