Mariah Carey Sells Ex-Fiancé’s Engagement Ring for $2 Million
Mariah Carey Has Sold the Engagement Ring That James Packer Gave Her Two Years Ago
Mariah Carey has officially said bye-bye to the engagement ring that her ex-fiancé, Australian billionaire James Packer, gave her two years ago.
Reportedly, the New York-born singing diva sold the 35-carat diamond ring, said to be worth $10 million, for a little over $2 million dollars–and, no, it wasn’t due to monetary issues either.
“Mariah has been very vocal recently about her choice to move forward in her life surrounded by positivity,” her publicist told Page Six. “That requires leaving emotional and material baggage behind, including an old engagement ring from an ex-boyfriend.”
According to a close source, the fine piece of jewelry, which was a part of the financial settlement Carey made after the split, was allegedly quietly marketed to a Los Angeles jeweler for $2.1 million by one of her business managers.
“A confidentiality agreement was signed, but the jeweler is currently selling it, and there’s only one such ring,” the source revealed. “Mariah Carey’s public relations people are desperately trying to keep the story from the press, and have threatened the jeweler with litigation if he discloses her name.”
Well, it looks like it’s a little too late for that because the cat is surely already out of the bag.
As we know, Mariah Carey and James Packer announced their engagement in January of 2016 but called it off in October of that same year.
Subsequently, Carey was asking for $50 million in her settlement “for uprooting her life to move to L.A. for him,” and she even claimed that she was so traumatized by the breakup that she had to cancel the South American leg of her then-tour.
In that same settlement, she also sought to keep the ring, and needless to say, she did… and ended up a couple more millions richer.
Should Mariah have kept the ring or nah? Would you do the same thing?
