Lupita Nyong’o is out here doing some pretty damn good things! She won her very first Oscar Award back in 2014 as supporting actress in the film 21 Years a Slave, she went on to play Nakia in Ryan Coogler’s film Black Panther, and now her most recent role is in Jordan Peele’s film Us. Nyong’o is definitely making her mark in history!
She recently announced back in January of 2018 that she was going to write a book and now we know when we get to see the fruits of her labor. This week she revealed on Instagram the cover of her book “Sulwe.”
Illustrations were done by Vashti Harrison, a Brooklyn creative who has also illustrated several other books including New York Times Best Seller, “Little Dreamers“ and Matthew Cherry’s “Hair Love“
“Sulwe” is about a little girl who by the way looks just like Nyong’o with the same headband, small afro and dress she was seen wearing at the 2014 Oscars; that deals with colorism and self-esteem. Sulwe is darker than her parents and a lot of her classmates at school. This book teaches young children to see their own unique beauty in the light. This book targets preschoolers to third graders.
“Sulwe“ is available now for pre-order here.
The book will be hitting stores on October 1st!
