Earlier this week I opened up my Tidal app to some damn good news. Some great news actually. Megan Thee Stallion was dropping her Good News album. The Megan Thee Stallion Good News album was released on Friday November 20th.

Now folks might wonder why exactly this is exciting news, after all Megan has been riding the charts all the way to number one with her “Savage” (remix) feat. Queen Bey and the ever controversial, pearl-clutch inducing “WAP” with fellow rapper Cardi B. But for those of us who’ve been following Megan closely, this is like a victory lap for the boat-driving captain.
In the middle of hustling her music she’s managed to drop quite a few hits including: 3 EP’s (“Make It Hot”, “Tina Snow”, and “Suga”), a full length mixtape (2019’s “Fever”); picked up two BET awards (“Best Female Hip Hop Artist” and “Hip Hop Artist of the Year”); was named one of Time magazine’s most influential people of 2020; and scored a spot on Saturday Night Live as a musical guest, where she delivered an amazing and politically charged rendition of Savage featuring the voice of Malcolm X to cap off her message of protecting Black women and men.

All of this while she had to cope with the death of her mother, attending school for her degree in health-care administration, a contract dispute that almost got in the way of this album’s release, getting a subsequent new deal with RocNation, and of course the whole Tory Lanez shooting her in the foot debacle.
Sis done been through it in more ways than one honestly, and this album is a triumphant celebration of her power and willingness to face life’s challenges boldly and say “Bring it on!”. I know what it’s like to feel like everything around you is crumbling but still doing the work anyway because it has to get done. I’m happy she’s surrounding herself with better people, learning lessons and just growing up and maturing in general. I’m proud to see she “came through the bushes smelling like roses” as her new label boss Jay-Z once said. And that’s good news a-plenty for me.
