Writing an essay is a pretty intense assignment. Whether you have to hand it in as your homework or a weekly assignment, it takes a lot of effort and planning to execute. Most students see essays as an extended homework exercise. These students end up approaching this assignment the wrong way.

Essays are not just homework or tests for you to get your grade. Essays are an opportunity to show your teacher or professor how capable you are as a student. You can make a lasting impression with a well-written essay, and that can affect how your academic supervisors see you and think of you, in turn affecting your grades. Let’s check out how you can do that quickly and easily.

Plan Out Your Time

When you first get your essay assignment, first plan out how much time you have to complete it. If the deadline is the next week, you don’t have seven days to finish. Check your study plan and daily planner and see how much time you have to spare during the week or how many hours you have scheduled for this subject.

If it is a weekly assignment, you have to figure out how to fit in writing the essay while maintaining the rest of your schedule. If you have free time planned this week, sacrifice parts of it so you can dedicate it to your reports. If you plan to spend time with your friends, you could shift that to the weekend, so your essay is finished well before the deadline.

Research

Your next step is to research what you want to write about. Do as much research as you can, covering the history of the subject matter. Though conducting classes online, your school should still offer helpful resources like access to online libraries and paid services that should help you with your research.

If you have time, go online and see what you can dig up on your own. Your professor will appreciate the extra step you took to determine how the subject is spoken about in modern times or popular discourse. You can look into social media or online forums like Reddit to find enthusiasts who will be more than happy to help you get different perspectives, enriching your essay and helping you get a higher grade.

Make a Skeleton

Once you have your plan and research in place, it’s time to make your skeleton. A lot of people write essays as it comes to their minds, like a train of thought. However, this is precisely why people have trouble writing essays and complain that it takes too long. When you make a skeleton, you already know how to get back your train of thought.

Thus, you can pick up where you left off quickly and easily. Making a skeleton also allows you to get an estimate of what your overall essay reads like. Does it have a natural flow from introduction, body to the conclusion? Are your points in the order they should be? Are you including everything you wanted to say overall? You can answer all these questions if you plot out your points before you start writing.

Flesh Out Your Points

Finally, it comes time to write out your essay. Decide on the style of paper you want to write and then start where it comes naturally to you. If you are unsure about what type you want, you can look up samples from essay-related services online before you start. While most people start from the introduction, if you have your essay skeleton with you, you don’t have to.

Start writing from where you feel most confident. This is best done on a computer so that you can easily add sections in front of it or behind it as needed. If you need to submit a handwritten assignment, you should first finish writing your essay on your computer or laptop and complete all checks before writing it down with a pen on paper.

Cut Out Distractions

And finally, the number one tip we can give when trying to write essays faster is to cut out all your distractions. If you are easily distracted by social media, leave your phone on charge in a different room while you write. If your laptop is proving to be a problem, sign out of social media accounts from that device.

We also get distracted by food, water, and people. With everyone working or studying from home, we understand that houses can be noisy and distracting. Invest in a good pair of over-the-ear noise-canceling headphones to stay sane during the academic year. Keep a drawer of snacks and beverages near where you study so you aren’t getting up four times an hour too.
