5 Makeup Looks Inspired by Iconic Movies

Movies have given us so many valuable things such as iconic phrases, our favorite actors, the music we still listen to, fashionable clothes, and daring makeup looks. Are you looking for your next makeup look and need some inspiration? Have you just got some new beauty products that you are dying to try out but have no idea what to do? You are in luck because we’ve looked at the top five makeup looks inspired by movies. Who knows, maybe we’ll see you dolled up in pink like Elle Woods?

Velma Kelly from Chicago

The breathtakingly beautiful Catherine Zeta-Jones played Velma Kelly. Since Chicago is set in the 1920s, the makeup looks from the time were all about dark eyes. Velma’s look in the film is all about lush lashes and heavily lined eyes. So how do you recreate this? Here you need to focus on the eyes, remember, the darker the better! Achieve the glitz and glamour look with these effortless steps.

  • Eyeshadow and brows: Because your focus is primarily on your eyes, start here. Opt for black eyeshadow and apply it all over your eyelids. Next, dust some eyeshadow on the cut crease and extend it towards your brow. Next, apply some black eyeshadow to your brow bone, and lastly, fill your brows with a black brow pen.
  • Eyeliner, mascara, and eyelashes: You want to go over the top with your eyelashes here, so get a set that works for you, the longer the better. Opt for black eyeliner and mascara and apply it generously, or as you usually would.
  • Moisturize, and apply foundation: Now you need to use your moisturizer and get your skin feeling good. Then lay your foundation. Try to keep your foundation light, just enough to hide your blemishes.
  • Blush and bronzer: Aim for soft hues for your cheeks as your eyes are the star of the show.
  • Lipstick: Pick your favorite red lipstick and your look is complete!

Now you are set with a 1920s makeup look and all that jazz!

Elle Woods from Legally Blond

Bend… and snap! Every teenage girl from the early 2000s remembers this iconic line from this fun movie. Elle Woods is a glamour girl who is mildly obsessed with pink, who loves her fur baby Bruiser Woods and who becomes a Harvard Law Graduate! Reese Witherspoon’s character also served us makeup look after makeup look. One of her more recognized faces is when she’s fresh-faced with bold lips. Quite simple yet we still remember it today. However, if you want to emulate Elle’s look, you will need to put some work into it. Start with your moisturizer then apply some concealer. To match her eyes, opt for the following colors: purple, mauve, violet, and cool, neutral tones. Once you are done with your eyeshadow, apply your mascara in black and fill your brows with a pencil. Finish your look with pink blush and a generous application of lip gloss! We are in luck, rumor has it that a Legally Blonde 3 is in the works, so more makeup looks for us!

Movies Quintessential Makeup Looks

Selena from Selena

Jennifer Lopez stormed the entertainment scene when she played real-life Tejano music star, Selena Quintanilla Pérez. The 1997 film documented Selena’s rise to fame and her premature death. The film also paved the way for Jennifer Lopez who is now an icon in her own right. Throughout the film, Selena’s makeup is dark yet bold and this is what you want to go for. To achieve the vampy look, follow these steps.

First, you must protect your skin so apply some moisturizer then lay your foundation. Selena’s makeup was generally matte so you will need to use a setting powder to achieve the matte look. Both in real life and in the film, Selena was a top performer, so she needed her makeup to last throughout her performances. Next up it’s time for bronzer and more powder. Fun fact, Selena contoured before it was cool, and it’s easily noticeable as you can see under her eye area and chin, it was much lighter than the rest of her face. After applying your bronzer, it’s time for the eyeshadow and eyeliner. Then, to seal the deal, fill your brows until they are nice and bold.

Quintessential Makeup Looks in movies

Justice from Poetic Justice

Janet Jackson’s first movie role and she nailed it! Jackson plays Justice, who embarks on a journey of salvation after her boyfriend is murdered. She uses poetry to overcome her obstacles while befriending a postal worker who helps her overcome her isolation. This film is more than just a love story. Since the character of Justice is quite girl-next-door, her makeup fully encapsulates this. If you want to achieve this look as well, follow these steps.

You want to work on your complexion first and keep it light. The matte foundation will work wonders. Then, to replicate Justice’s cheekbones, you will need to contour, for this might be the most hectic part since Janet has natural gorgeous cheekbones. To get that 90s eyebrow you will need to use a brow gel to lock it in, and for the lips, apply lip liner generously, and voila!

Rachel Chu from Crazy Rich Asians

Rachel Chu, played by the amazing actor Constance Wu is a simple yet beautiful character with simple makeup looks throughout the film. We see Rachel with soft hues such as neutral eyeshadows and hints of pink on her lips.
