Idris Elba working with Africa?! Via their respective production firms, Green Door Pictures and EbonyLife Media, the celebrated actor and media tycoon Mo Abudu are teaming up to support the development of talent from Africa and the diaspora.

The new alliance seeks to create opportunities through both large-scale international productions and capacity building. Under the relationship, new programs in education and mentoring will be introduced to support both the lost generation and the emerging creative generation.

By joining forces, Elba and Abudu hope to promote a more varied and inclusive media environment for tales from Africa and its diaspora. They are requesting assistance from global talent development organizations and multilateral organizations to enhance capacity across the African continent from business leaders, the larger public sector, and governments.

To promote and amplify African talent, the team intends to build on industry education. This will be done mostly through Lagos’ EbonyLife Creative Academy, which will assist program graduates.

The slate will put an emphasis on bringing real, Afrocentric fables that connect with viewers everywhere. The co-productions will target both the theatrical market and broadcasters and streamers.

“I have always been passionate about using my platform to make a positive impact. By partnering with Mo, we aim to offer free, world-class industry education to the next generation of storytellers and bring their authentic voices to the forefront. This partnership is a step towards creating a more inclusive and diverse media landscape, one that represents the voices and experiences of Africa and its diaspora around the world,” expressed Elba.

Abudu also revealed her feelings regarding the new venture with Elba. “We believe that Africa has the talent and the stories to captivate the world.
