Is it true that the Hip-Hop swag John Cena brought to the WWE ring mimics Tony Yayo of G-Unit? You’d be surprised.

When wrestling legend John Cena arrived on the WWE scene back in the early 2000s, he ultimately gained stardom after adopting the person of a trash-talking rap artist (a la Eminem but with mega muscles).

Waving his hand in front of his face while stating “you can’t see me” became Cena’s trademark as he taunted opponents. Did the 16-time WWE world champion come up with the mocking style himself, though?

Apparently not. Fans claim Cena’s chastising mannerisms actually derived from G-Unit rapper Tony Yayo.

According to fans, Yayo began waving his hand in front of his face and saying “you can’t see me” before Cena popularized it.

And for the record, that’s Tony Yayo’s “can’t see me” gesture. Not John Cena’s pic.twitter.com/Noh3I1tH5U

John Cena Stole Tony Yayo’s Swag & This Is Why the Fans Think So

“How tony yayo let a white boy pilfer his whole style i’ll never know,” tweeted one user. Another fan on Twitter shared, “I’m more concerned with y’all disrespecting Tony Yayo like this by saying it’s John Cena’s you can’t see me gesture. Like ??????”

Evidently, LSU’s Angel Reese and Iowa’s Caitlin Clark recently mocked each other on the court by waving her hand in front of her face and gesturing “you can’t see me.” This display is what led fans to hop on Twitter and discuss the taunt’s origination.

When Caitlin Clarke did the Tony Yayo ppl liked it and laughed. Angel do her shit and its a problem. We know its the yt really mad but we beat they yt asses and that that hoe🤣🤣🤣

The "you can't see me" hand gesture being used by Caitlin Clark & Angel Reese was believed to be taken from John Cena. However it was actually invented by Tony Yayo of G-Unit. Originally used in 50 Cent's 'In Da Club' video in 2003.

One fan posted via Twitter, “It’s NOT a John Cena move, Tony Yayo of G-Unit created it Stop it Culture vultures!!! #YouCantSeeMe”. Another user took it further, “John Cena did an interview where he talks about seeing Tony Yayo do it in a music video and his brother dared him to do it at a match.”

A third fan went on to summarize the entire controversy, “A lot of ppl salty about Angel doing the Tony Yayo (not the John Cena, fyi). two takeaways: (1) the double standard couldn’t be any more obvious, (2 with emphasis) the talent on the floor for both teams was incredible, and I hope more people focus on that. they were balling.”
