Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Grammys, made the ground-breaking statement that music with AI facets will now be eligible for awards.
Although AI-generated art has recently gained attention, this decision is a big step toward acknowledging AI’s place in the music business.
Mason made it clear, though, that human creators rather than AI systems would still receive the honors.
The Grammys have changed to reflect the changing creative landscape by recognizing the upsurge of AI tunes.
On July 5, Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Grammys, said that music with AI-generated elements will be taken into consideration for awards.
AI Music Is On It’s Way To Mainstream
Mason underlined that while the acceptance of AI music is momentous, the Grammy Awards will still celebrate human composition. In other words, the role of AI will be acknowledged, but the designers of the technology will still be eligible for important awards.
The choice guarantees that the Grammys’ essential principles of honoring artistic talent and craftsmanship endure.
Fans and industry watchers have reacted passionately to the Grammy Awards’ introduction of AI-generated music. Diverse viewpoints have been expressed on social media channels, with some objecting to AI’s participation.

Mason Jr. emphasized that music produced by AI is eligible for nomination. “AI, or music that contains AI-created elements is eligible for entry and consideration for Grammy nomination. Period,” stated the CEO.
He made it crystal clear, though, that the AI component will not receive a Grammy nomination. This makes sure that the Grammy Awards’ primary value of the human element is maintained.
The first Grammy Awards with the prospect of AI-generated music gaining nominations will take place on February 4, 2024 in Los Angeles at the Crypto.com Arena.
