SAG-AFTRA (The Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) Foundation has reportedly received a “seven-figure” donation from Dwayne Johnson in the midst of the union’s strike.
The nonprofit arranges financial assistance for the union’s 160,000 strike-takers, who are protesting a variety of problems, including salary and the usage of artificial intelligence (AI).
In an effort to raise money for their Emergency Financial Assistance Program following the strikes, SAG-AFTRA Foundation president Courtney B. Vance and executive director Cyd Wilson wrote to the union’s highest-paid performers.
The Rock replied to Vance and Wilson shortly after the letter was distributed, stating that he wanted to assist members in any way he could.
“It was a love fest. It’s like, ‘Man, you’re stepping up in a way that is allowing others to know the dire necessity of it,” Vance expressed to Variety.
Dwayne Johnson Gives Heartfelt Donation
“This is him saying, ‘In such a time as this, I’m here and I’m not going anywhere, whatever you need me to do.’ And that sends a huge message to other folks to do the same thing.”
Although The Rock’s donation’s specific amount hasn’t been made public, a spokesman informed reporters that it is a “seven-figure” sum with the ability to “aid thousands of actors”.
Wilson furthered, “It’s the largest single donation that we’ve ever received from one individual at one time.”
The executive director stated that 7,000 to 10,000 members will probably benefit from the WWE champ’s generosity, and that individuals will be able to put food on the table, keep their kids safe, and keep their automobiles running.
