Kendrick Lamar surprised Hip-Hop fans on Friday, November 22nd, with the release of his highly anticipated new album. The Kendrick Lamar GNX album was released mid day Friday, so it flew under the radar of fans who generally seek out the new releases at midnight. Still, it didn’t take long before the Kendrick Lamar GNX album reactions came rolling in, with Kendrick stans and Drake fans seemingly trading takes all over social media. One of the unintended consequences of a rap beef: any negative comments about either of the rappers feels like its because of unrelenting support for the other artist.
Although the two rappers have been trading slick jabs at each other for years, the Drake and Kendrick beef reached new heights in 2024 and this beef has been like none other. With the Kendrick Lamar GNX album, Lamar adds subtle comments about the feud, which immediately sparks interest from fans wanting to know if a Drake release will quickly follow. Lamar further uses this opportunity to discuss the recent Super Bowl performance announcement drama, in particular the reaction from Lil Wayne. That’s not all!
GNX is Kendrick Lamar’s first full length release since 2022’s Mr. Moral & The Big Steppers, which featured singles like, “N95,” “We Cry Together,” and the bonus track, “The Heart Part 5.”
GNX comes in at 12 songs, this time with no features. Stylistically, all the songs are lowercase in spelling. Kendrick also continues his series, with “heart pt. 6,” which fans were unsure would happen since one of the Drake disses stole the format and was titled, “The Heart Part 6.”
GNX is titled after a car, a 1987 Buick, which also appears with Kendrick on the album cover. The album is produced in large part by Jack Antonoff (who produced Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department) and Sounwave. The duo serve as co-producers on all but one of the songs.
