The 18th Annual Essence Music Festival, running from July 5 to July 8 in New Orleans, will close out this year with a special performance from Chaka Khan and the R&B Divas, the cast of the new TV reality series. Chaka Khan headlines Essence Fest 2012 for the first time.
Khan and the Divas—Faith Evans, Nicci Gilbert, Monifah Carter, Syleenah Johnson and Keke Wyatt—will take to the stage for the encore set following legendary Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin on the last day of the festival, July 8th.
Joining Franklin, Khan and the Divas is a line-up that includes D’Angelo, Charlie Wilson, Mary Mary, Trey Songz and Mary J. Blige.
The Essence Music Festival is one aspect of the Essence Empowerment Experience, an event whose goal is to bring together “the leaders, innovators, activists, experts, artists, performers and thinkers who are defining the social and political discussions that matter most to attendees” in one space.
