Google Launches Certification Program For Budding IT Professionals

Google has partnered with online education system Coursera to create the first-of-its-kind Google IT Support Certificate Program for young professionals hoping to expand their learning and enter the work field.

Coursera was founded in 2012 by two Stanford Computer Science professors.  Since then they have offered over 2000 courses and served over 25 million students.  Google is the latest organization to partner with the organization for their courses.

The Google IT Support Certificate Program offers six course certificates designed to prepare you for an entry-level role in IT support.  The courses take eight to twelve months depending on time commitment.   Courses include Technical Support Fundamentals; System Administration and IT Infrastructure Services; and IT Security: Defense against the digital dark arts.

Enrollment for the Google IT Support Professional Certificate program opens on January 16th and the first set of programming starts on January 23rd.

The courses are being offered at $49.00 a month, but Google is currently offering financial assistance to 10,000 learners who qualify.  This is a huge opportunity for people trying to enter and grow in the field, particularly minorities.
