DaniLeigh talks about DaBaby Instagram Live incident with Angie Martinez after months of silence on the matter. The interview was exclusively done with People. DaniLeigh talked about DaBaby Instagram Live incident, co-parenting and her new single, Dead to Me

DaBaby and DaniLeigh got into it on Instagram Live in November 2021. DaBaby called the cops on her while she was nursing their eight-month-old daughter. At the time, the singer was charged with two counts of assault, according to RollingStone and TMZ.

During DaniLeigh’s interview with Angie Martinez and People, DaniLeigh describes their breakup as a “very bad time” in her life and how she wishes her baby didn’t have to see it later on in life. “It was very triggering, very sad,” Danileigh said. “I wish it didn’t happen because I don’t want my baby to see that later on in life… But she’ll grow to be her own person and to be able to take things in.”

DaniLeigh (real name Danielle Leigh Curiel) continued by saying “the only responsibility I have is to raise her to be a strong woman. She’ll feel how she feels, she’s her own person,” she says of her daughter, whose name is yet to be revealed.

She’s now navigating co-parenting with Dababy and said she likes that it’s a “challenge on her maturity.” DaniLeigh also spoke about how she loved him so much that she neglected herself and her music. “I’ve learned to love myself so much more,” she says. “Because I feel like I really did love him so much that I was just giving it all to him … I didn’t even focus on my career.”

Committed to making up for the latter, DaniLeigh released her new single Dead to Me – her first release since her 2020 album, Movie. She also teased Dead to Me on Instagram on Monday, May 10th. DaniLeigh ended the interview by sharing she plans to release an EP entitled My Side which reflects closure. “I feel like the project is closure for me to just move on for my next chapter in life and just focus on having fun and being a mom and living life in a positive light,” DaniLeigh said. There’s no release date for the EP yet.
