Lebron James is now truly the king — scoring king that is. On Tuesday (Feb. 7), King James surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar‘s scoring record (set back in 1984) and is now the NBA’s all-time leading scorer. In the midst of last night’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, James scored his 38,390th point in front of a celeb-filled crowd ultimately shattering the record for the most points scored in NBA history by any player. The phenom athlete became the no. 1 scorer of all-time in the third quarter when he netted a fadeaway jumper.
Fellow LA Laker Abdul-Jabbar naturally was in attendance at the Crypto.com Arena when Lebron James topped his 39-year-old scoring record; in the stands also where Lakers greats A.C. Green and James Worthy. A plethora of public figures graced the crowd as well such as Jay-Z, Usher, Bad Bunny, and Denzel Washington. In addition, his wife, Savannah, sons, Bryce and Bronny, daughter, Zhuri,, and his mother, Gloria, roared as they watched James become the NBA’s all-time leading scorer. 15-year-old Bryce and 18-year-old Bronny were caught taping the shot that broke Abdul-Jabbar‘s record.

The NBA halted the game after Lebron James scored the record-smashing points to commemorate the outstanding achievement. Abdul-Jabbar essentially ‘passed the torch’ to the new scoring king during the on-court ceremony by handing him a basketball. The Ohio native then turned to the audience to address being the NBA’s all-time leading scorer. “I had a moment when it happened, and I embraced that moment. Seeing my family and friends, the people that’s been around me since I started this journey to the NBA, definitely very emotional right there,” James said.
Soon before the former Cleveland Cavalier was born, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar set the record for the top scorer in NBA history. The sky-hooking center passed Wilt Chamberlain’s record (31,419 points) in 1984 and accumulated a staggering 38,387 points by the time he retired in 1989. An abundance of celebs have also taken to social media to congratulate the Laker on his unparalleled achievement. Salute to Lebron James for becoming the NBA’s All-Time Leading Scorer.
