Like many other celebs, Jennifer Lopez has gotten in on the alcohol brand bandwagon — but why are the fans throwing stones at her? Here’s what you need to know about the outrage surround Jennifer Lopez’s Delola.
Despite previously declaring she does not drink, the dancer, singer, and actress is receiving criticism on social media for developing a range of alcoholic beverages.
Lopez just introduced her new line of flavored spritz cocktails, known as Delola, on Instagram.
According to Lopez in the advertisement, the cocktails don’t contain the typical “artificial ingredients” and sweets that other drinks have and have about the same amount of alcohol as a glass of wine.
With a straw in her lips, Lopez is seen holding one of the drinks, but she doesn’t seem to be sipping it.
Why Jennifer Lopez’s Delola Alcohol Brand Sparked Social Outcry
However, given that she has been outspoken about the harmful effects of drinking and that her husband, Ben Affleck, has stated he is sober after completing treatment for alcohol addiction, some fans said they were “confused and disappointed” by the “Money Train” actor’s decision to promote alcohol consumption.
Beneath the ad, one Instagrammer expressed in the comments section, “Wow. I’m so disappointed and confused by the narrative that she puts out about how she doesn’t drink alcohol and all the benefits from not drinking. And her partner is sober? It doesn’t matter what type of ‘good for you ingredients’ and ‘health labels’ (gluten free) is in alcohol, it’s still a carcinogenic toxin.”
Another IG user commented about Delola, “Been a fan of JLO forever but this nail the coffin for me. What a disappointment. I wonder what Ben has to say about that? SMH!”
Some people labeled Jennifer Lopez’s alcohol venture a “money grab,” claiming it’s “opportunistic.”
“She doesn’t drink alcohol so just goes to show what she will do for money,” a fan posted in the ad’s comment section.
