On this Easter Sunday, the latest Verzuz battle will feature some Gospel LEGENDS: Mary Mary vs BeBe and CeCe Winans. The Verzuz finds us having a little bit of the ol’ school meets the new school, so it will be interesting and entertaining to see how this all comes together.
BeBe & CeCe Winans have been making music since the early 80s. The siblings were the younger siblings from the same family that brought you The Winans. The duo sang on The PTL Club, a Christian television show, performing as part of The PTL singers. They broke off from the show to release their debut self-titled album in 1987.
They released 6 albums as a duo, with their last being released in 2009. Prior to that they were also featured on one PTL album. Their biggest hits as a duo include “Heaven,” “Grace,” and “Addictive Love” among others.
BeBe Winans (Benjamin Winans) has also released another 8 solo albums, beginning with his 1997 release, his self titled debut. CeCe Winans (Priscilla Marie Winans Love) has another 12 solo albums, with over 17 million albums sold. Her biggest hit is her duet with Whitney Houston, “Count On Me.”
Mary Mary, comprised of Erica Campbell and Tina Campbell, began their career in 1998 and released their debut album, Thankful, in 2000. Most of their career they were assisted by the production of Warryn Campbell(he and Erica would later wed). They released 6 albums as a duo, before parting ways to pursue solo careers after 2011’s Something Big.
Erica Campbell went on to release Help and Help 2.0 in 2014 and 2015 respectively. Help would win the Grammy Award for Best Gospel album.
Tina Campbell released her solo albums, It’s Personal (2015) and It’s Still Personal (2017). Tina Campbell and her husband Teddy Campbell have released several singles and projects in the last few years as well.
