Rap collective FREEWIFI, which consists of three members known as Daddy Dinero, Tha Rift, and J. Plaza, is on a quick road to the top of Hip-Hop. Based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota, the group was founded in 2016. Each member had already seen great individual success, but came together when summoned by producer Angelo Bombay for work on one of Rift’s singles.

Titled “Ego”, their first song was quickly a hit and the stylish rappers decided to form as one. Dinero’s catchy verses combined with Rift’s witty chorus vocals and Plaza’s beautiful flow, were a perfect combination, thus leading to the creation of FREEWIFI. The song easily garnered 100,000 views and from there, they took off. Ever since then, the trio has found themselves making headlines left and right.

In the beginning of February 2018, FREEWIFI released their Rostrum Records debut album Connected. It has been recognized by all sorts of rap moguls, and it’s even earned them an interview with Peter Rosenberg on Hot97, something the group claims as their coolest accomplishment.

“The coolest thing we’ve done with music so far is definitely talking with Pete Rosenberg on Hot97. Other stuff includes a few billboards for the album in our hometown, dropping the album itself, and getting the chance to spend time with will.i.am to discuss our music.”

FREEWIFI has consistently sold out dozens of shows, and even have had the chance to open for a plethora of major stars. They have had the opportunity to open for Gucci Mane, Wiz Khalifa, Waka Flocka Flame, Lil Xan, Machine Gun Kelly, and most recently for G-Eazy and Trippie Redd on The Beautiful & Damned Tour. Also having played at many festivals (including A3C, Summer Set, EST Festival, and more), a packed schedule for 2018 is inevitable.

“A tour will definitely be happening soon. No details yet, but stay tuned. Minnesota is the best place to perform as it’s our home, but we want to travel around. We’ll also be dropping a tape before our next album.”

The group prides itself on its versatility and tenacious attitude towards creating new music. Never being afraid to push boundaries, seeing a new release from FREEWIFI could mean a hyped up jam, a melodic and chill beat, or simply just a freestyle that will make the ears of any listener glow.

“Our music has everything, there’s no limit. The album was mainly an introductory project for the group, but now we’re making new and different pieces. We’re trying to just create music. If we like it and vibe with it, we’ll go with it. There’s no limit to what we’re willing to try.”

As time goes on, the group will enjoy its quick rise to the top but also try to expand into other horizons. Despite the millions of views and plays (Dinero’s remix of Drake’s “Energy” has 1 million by itself) , they will continue their hard work and stay focused while still having fun with it.

“We try to have fun. We enjoy building this relationship, this brotherhood. Our influences are A$AP Rocky and the whole Mob, Mike Jones, and his whole movement. Rocky’s swag hit me on the head, and made us realize that direction is the way to go. We’d love to collaborate with Drake, and hopefully own our own label eventually, with all of us at the top. But there are other things outside of music. We want to mark our spot in history and sink our feet into other stuff such as television and movies.”

Having been recognized by many other publications, including Pigeons & Planes, there is no doubt that the group will be one of the biggest names in Hip-Hop’s near future. When working as a team, there is no stopping FREEWIFI. They’re likable, capable, and already a favorite of many of the genre’s fans. It’ll be no surprise to anybody when the city of Minneapolis becomes an important part of the rap game, and it won’t be a surprise either when FREEWIFI is right in the middle of it all.
